Short Biography

ANG Beng Wah (B.W. Ang) is Professor of Industrial & Systems Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He has 30 years of experience in energy studies and has made important contributions to the development and application of the technique of index decomposition analysis. This technique has been widely used by researchers and analysts to study factors affecting national energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, as well as to monitor sectoral and economy-wide energy efficiency trends. Professor Ang is an Editor of Energy Economics, Associate Editor of Energy - The International Journal, and a member of the editorial boards of four other international journals including Energy Policy. He has been a contributor to the activities and programmes of international organizations, including several United Nations specialised agencies and Intergovernmental Panel of Climate Change. Professor Ang received his BSc from the then Nanyang University and PhD from the University of Cambridge, respectively in 1977 and 1981. Before joining NUS in 1984, he was a Post-doctoral Research Associate in the Energy Research Group at the Cavendish Laboratory of the University of Cambridge. He was Head of the Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering at NUS from 2001 to 2007.
